ROME: Netflix will launch in Italy in the fourth quarter of 2015, as first reported by Variety.
The news isn’t quite official, but it was announced during the country’s Business Location South Tyrol—Alto Adige BLS film conference by Nicola Allieta, the business development manager at Under the Milky Way, the Paris-based digital film distribution and marketing company that already works with Netflix across Europe.
According to Variety, Allieta wasn’t the only source to confirm Netflix’s late 2015 launch date in Italy. Still, Allieta’s confirmation alone was heard by numerous film executives at BLS who attended from countries like Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.
Italian telco operator, Telecom Italia, reported being in talks with Netflix about the streaming giant’s service showing up on the telco’s own video platform.
The only comment from Netflix’s head of communications in Europe, Joris Evers, was that company plans to “be global by end of 2016.” Those outside of the company put the Italian Netflix launch at October 2015.
