AMSTERDAM: The Netherlands is Europe’s largest exporter of bicycles, with exports rising in value 14% last year to €793m, according to the national statistics office CBS.
In total, Dutch bikes – most of which were made locally – accounted for 25% of the EU’s bike exports. Worldwide China and Taiwan are the ‘undisputed leaders’ with the Dutch in third place, the CBS said. The Netherlands also imported bikes to the value of €536m last year.
Most of these bikes came from Germany and Taiwan and around 20% were electric.
