BERLIN: The new Audi R8 is absolutely a beautiful piece of automotive engineering with its crisp and more aggressive styling paired to a powerful V10 engine.

Audi didn’t have to mess around too much with the styling this time around, as the company slightly revised the front and rear of the car to look sharper over the previous generation.

This makes for a better approach instead of radically redesigning the car into something different from what the original was risking ruining the looks of the car.

With a new aluminum chassis, the 2017 Audi R8 is some 100lbs lighter than its predecessor and more powerful with a 5.2-litre mid-mounted V10 engine that produces 540hp along with 398 pound-feet of torque, or 610hp and 413 pound-feet of torque in the V10 plus model.

Audi hasn’t made any mention whether they will include a V8 version in the near future, so the standard V10 will have to do for now as with its only seven-speed S Tronic dual-clutch transmission that can have you shifting up to its 8,700rpm redline in no time.

With the likes of Ferrari and McLaren, the second generation Audi R8 is a serious contender sprinting to 62 mph in just 3.2 seconds with a top speed of 205 mph with the help of its Quattro four-wheel drive, all in a package weighing just 3,350 pounds.

The automaker has also gone to lengths to make sure the technology inside the R8 helps it achieve an estimated 19.9 mpg with cylinder deactivation, clutch disengagement system and stop-start anti-idling for an efficient high-performance vehicle, with the addition of a fully digital high-tech instrument cluster as shown below by SlashGear

There’s no doubt that this top-end sports car is better looking and is a faster sequel than its predecessor. It sits lower and wider with an all-wishbone set-up, which improves grip and stability through turns while producing a respectable amount of power from its V10 engine.

Audi has delivered its best sport car yet in an attractive package that absolutely screams performance and excellence that puts it near super-car status.
