New industrial estates, SEZs need of the time: FPCCI

LAHORE: Establishment of new industrial estates, special economic zones and upgrading technology in the existing clusters of small and medium industry through public-private partnership is need of the time.

FPCCI Vice President and Regional Chairman Manzoorul Haq Malik expressed these views in a meeting with Pakistan Industrial Development Corporation (PIDC) CEO Iqbal Tabish here at Regional office of the Federation on Tuesday. Malik said that industrialization was crucial in this era of development and “If we succeed in carrying out industrialization, the social, economic and technical problems will be readily solved. Industrial estates, SEZs, industrial cluster, cottage industries and SMEs are one of the key steps towards economic growth”.

He added Pakistan was bestowed with four seasons and variety of agriculture produces, and there was huge potential of development of agro based industry to earn huge revenues. “We should strengthen our supply chain system in context of CPEC. Investment in Value addition units, cold storage units and de-hydration plants in Punjab should be encouraged”, he maintained.

On this occasion, PIDC Chief Executive Officer Iqbal Tabish appreciated the ideas and views shared in the meeting and ensured his full support for mutual cooperation. He said business community of Pakistan was making all their efforts for economic uplift of country despite various problems being faced by them. The meeting was attended by large number of business community.
