The New Zealander took the wheel of the limited edition $1.1 million dollar vehicle, going from 60km/h to 350km/h in just 40 seconds, 9 News reports.

Video footage shows Baird rapidly accelerating and leaving behind an impressive trail of swirling red dust in the test drive.

The road stretches 204km north of Alice Springs to just south of Barrow Creek, with a sign at the start of the zone simply reading “Open Speed Zone Ahead Drive to Conditions”.

The first models of the luxury vehicle all 918 of them have promptly sold out. There is no speed limit in Australia’s Northern Territory.
