MANGALURU: In line with government of India’s policy on ‘ease of doing business’ in ports, the New Mangaluru Port Trust here has successfully implemented and integrated eDO (Electronic Delivery Order) with the Port Community System (PCS) on Friday. This allows Vessel Agents/Steamers to issue eDO via electronic medium. With this initiative NMPT becomes the first port in India to introduce eDO in Port sector for bulk/liquid cargo. The Port Operating System (POS) which is successfully running in NMPT has been upgraded to capture this data via EDI (Electronic Data Interchange) and further process in terms of forwarding and passing with no manual intervention and requires only one electronic approval. NMP Traffic Manager said this will also enhance the paperless concept. This process also cuts down the dwell time and transaction cost significantly, the traffic manager said adding this is a major step towards implementation of e-business in port.
Another milestone achieved by NMPT in ‘ease of doing business’ is the Web-based Port Entry/Clearance System which has gone live w.e.f. November 17. Now the Steamer agents are able to generate and download both inward and outward clearance certificates. Since the above application, is completely automated and requires no manual intervention, the port users are benefited by viewing and downloading all their invoices/bills related to operations. PC Parida, Chairman, NMPT has appealed all the port users to avail the above facilities for speedy and hassle-free transactions in the Port and thereby the Trade will be benefited in terms of time, cost and efficiency.
