New national water policy being formulated

ISLAMABAD: The federal government is formulating a new national water policy to address the issue water scarcity.

According to Radio Pakistan quoting official sources said that the policy was being finalised in consultation with all the stakeholders. The policy was aimed at efficient use of fresh water, developing hydropower projects, ensuring food security, expanding available water supply and adapting to climate changes.

The new policy will lay stress on upgrading the water sector’s information systems, improving watershed management, increasing forest cover, flood management and encouraging rainwater harvesting technology.
