KINGSTON: Bulgarian Galina Sotirova has assumed duties here as the new World Bank country representative for Jamaica.
Sotirova fills the vacancy left by Giorgio Valentini, who was reassigned to Honduras last year.
Kathy Lalazarian had been acting in the position in the interim.
“I am excited about serving in Jamaica at this critical time when the Government is undertaking significant reforms and initiatives to lay stronger foundations for growth and address social and climate vulnerabilities in the country, said Sotirova in a statement from the World Bank.
“I hope to quickly settle in and build on my predecessor’s work to effectively implement the Jamaica Country Partnership Strategy, and continue engaging in a dynamic dialogue with Government, civil society, private sector, and all our development partners,” the new country representative said.
The Bulgarian national joined the World Bank in 1994 and has had postings in Burkina Faso as country representative, and country operations adviser for the Caribbean.
