ISLAMABAD: The Senate Standing Committee on Communications Tuesday expressed displeasure over delay in completion of Takht Bai Bridge in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and directed National Highway Authority (NHA) to expedite construction work.
The Senate body met here under the chairmanship of Senator Daud Khan Achakzai ann attended by other Senators Molana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri, Nisar Muhammad, Kalsoom Parveen, Kamil Ali Agha, Usman Khan Kakar, Agha Shebaz Khan Durrani, Sajjad Hussain Turi, Liaqat Khan Tarakai and officials of ministry of Communications.
The NHA official informed the body that completion of Takht Bai Bridge lingered on due to redesigning of the project.
He said KPK government was not paying Rs. 250 million amount to complete the work.
The official asked the body to provide guidelines to remove hurdles in way of project execution.
The committee also directed National Highway Authority (NHA) to expedite work on Gwadar-Kashgar rouit.
The body observed that the economic activities in Balochistan would provide employment opportunities to the people and help in maintaining peace and tranquility.
The committee also examined the affairs of Pakistan Postal Services.
Chairman Committee, Daud Khan said PPS could be made a profit oriented institution through introducing reforms in it like private postal organizations.
He also directed the department concerned to update Chaman Qila Abdullah Post Office on priority basis.
The Secretary Communications briefed the body about the performance of Postal Services.
