ABUJA: Two persons have been arrested for alleged attempt to extort port users. The suspects, (names withheld) were nabbed by men and officers the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Tin Can Island Command, Apapa, Lagos. The suspects, who claimed to be journalists covering the ports industry, also named a third person, who they claimed to be the Editor of the newspaper they work for.
They were accused of threating men and officers of the command that they had in their possession, clips of some of their allegedly involvement in corrupt practices and threatened to make them public if they fail to heed their demands.
They however, met waterloo when they were invited into the outer office of the Customs Area Controller (CAC), Comptroller Zakari Jubril to tender their evidence and it was discovered that the suspects were not in possession of any video clip or photograph, but only wanted to extort the officials.
They were however released after writing an undertaken that would not repeat the action.
