Nigeria: Ondo to strengthen ties with EU to lift exports

AKURE: Governor Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo State has said that his administration would strengthen relationship with the European Union (EU) with a view to providing international market for the commodities produced in the state.
He added that government would also synergise with the EU in the area of investment and technical know-how as Ondo State is blessed with abundant human and natural resources that have competitive advantage which can be exported to Europe.
Governor Mimiko made the declaration at the Government House in Akure during a courtesy call on him by the European Union Ambassador to Nigeria and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), Mr. Michel Arrion.
He lauded the EU for its previous poverty alleviation programmes through MPP3, MPP6 and MPP9 in the country, stressing that his administration had embarked on over 600 micro projects across the state to impact on the masses.
He said: “Our administration in the last six years had embarked on over 600 transformational micro projects that aimed at alleviating poverty, youth empowerment and income generation amongst others.”
He expressed government’s readiness to collaborate with the EU in the best interest of the people of the state.
While speaking, the European Union Ambassador to Nigeria, Michel Arrion said he was in the state for the Niger Delta Support Programme- 4 (NDSP-4), which is an initiative of EU.
According to him, the support programme will target projects in the areas of education, health and economic sectors in three local councils of Ilaje, Ondo East and Akoko North West.
