ABUJA: The Ogun Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) generated N1.35 billion in November, up from its N750 million monthly revenue target.
Mr Eporwei Edike, Assistant Comptroller-General of Customs in charge of Zone A, made the disclosure on Thursday during his visit to Ogun Customs Command at Iidroko.
He applauded the efforts of the officers for exceeding their monthly revenue target.
Edike said: “there is nothing I enjoyed than increase in revenue.
“I congratulate all the officers for supporting the Customs Area Controller of the command, Comptroller Mamudu Haruna for topping up the target.
“You can do better than what you generated in November. All your efforts are on record, so do not relent.
“You can meet your target and surpass it by 500 per cent which is possible with determination.’’
He urged the officers to continue working hard, adding that they play important roles in assisting the government achieve its obligations.
Edike urged officers in Customs Intelligence Unit (CIU) to be more inquisitive about smugglers, adding that they should not to allow unlawful and smuggled goods enter the country.
He said that officers should endeavour to check every corner of used vehicles, adding that smugglers could hide fake drugs and ammunition inside used vehicles.
The Assistant Comptroller-General also advised customs officers to be security conscious and seize prohibited items.
In his remarks, Area Controller of the command, Comptroller Mamudu Haruna, commended Edike for his words of wisdom and for praising officers who contributed to increase in revenue.
He urged the officers to do away with pride and always wear their correct rank.
He said that the command lost three officers this year as a result of environmental hazards.
