TAIPEI: The products from nine companies that last week received “best choice” awards ahead of Computex Taipei reflect industry trends this year, the Taipei Computer Association said.

Two of the winners are Nvidia Inc’s Nvidia Drive CX and PX platforms and Acer Inc’s PC Revo One RL85.

US graphics processing unit (GPU) maker Nvidia’s new platforms aim to provide in-car entertainment systems and displays for self-driving cars.

Nvidia Drive PX, which features an autopilot system, has been adopted by a local car maker for its new models that are to come out by the end of this year, a company official said on Wednesday in Taipei.

Acer, the world’s No. 4 PC brand, also intends to extend its prowess from the office to the living room by showcasing a mini-PC, dubbed PC Revo One RL85, through which users can display ultra-high-definition 4K videos that can be downloaded from the Apple Store or Google Play.

The company said its new product works like a home entertainment hub. Users can access music, pictures or other kind of files from remote storage via this cube-shaped mini PC, featuring Acer’s cloud computing technology.

Other winning products were Realtek Semiconductor Corp’s low-power chipset solution for Internet of Things technology, Etron Technology Inc’s USB Type-C switch and power delivery semiconductor controller EJ988 and Marson Technology Co’s mini-barcode scanner MT1195.

Micro-Star International Co’s X99A Gaming 9 ACK motherboard, Synology Inc’s router RT1900ac, Team Group Inc’s flash drive M152 and Wincomm Corp’s stainless touch panel PC WTP-9A66-19 round out the list of winners, the TCA said.

As PC demand wanes, major chipmakers have shifted their attention to the burgeoning smart-home market.

Local companies MediaTek Inc and Realtek plan to unveil new smart-home solutions such as controlling ighting and air-conditioning systems via Wi-Fi technology.

Meanwhile, Advanced Semiconductor Engineering Inc the world’s top chip packager, will demonstrate its System-in-Package technology at this year’s Computex.

The system uses a sensor network to control lighting and air-conditioning as well as monitor power usage, and can monitor the health of older people in a smart-home environment.

Amaryllo International BV, based in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, plans to show its new and affordable home security robots that can automatically track intruders’ movements with an audio sensor and smart sensor network.

AMobile Intelligent Corp won an award from TCA with a new multi-function mobile device, primarily designed for commercial use, which combines a phone with a smart FRID reader and mobile payment system.

The company is already supplying such devices to Chinese fashion brand Metersbonwe Group.

AMboile was established last year by MediaTek, a handset chipmaker, after acquiring an unspecified stake in local industrial computer maker Arbor Technology Corp.

Computex Taipei is expected to attract 38,000 buyers to Taipei during the five-day show, which opens tomorrow and runs through Saturday, TCA said.

The organizer said 1,702 firms have signed up and there will be 5,072 booths spread out between the Taipei World Trade Center’s Hall 1, Hall 2 and Nankang Exhibition Center as well as the Taipei International Convention Center.
