Nissan, with only 2 per cent auto market share, is focusing on shipping out Micra manufactured at its Chennai facility and exported close to 90,000 units last year to destinations like Europe, the Americas, Africa and Australia.

With its limited models and 160 outlets, Nissan has plans to take the market share to 5 per cent over the next few years.

Unveiling the Micra X-shift, Nissan India president Guillaume Sicard said the demand for automatic cars has risen to over 3.5 per cent in the past two years from less than 1 per cent in 2011-12.

Nissan rolled out the Micra in July 2010 from its Chennai plant. Micra are available in over 80 markets and have sold over 6 million units so far.
