Nissan unveils Murano Hybrid at 2015 Auto Shanghai

BEIJING: Nissan introduces Murano Hybrid at 2015 Auto Shanghai. The model has been showcased in Shnaghai in a bid to play two of the Chinese markets strengths first and foremost the increasing demand for crossover and sport utility models, as well as to “strengthen Nissan’s pioneering efforts to bring more sustainable mobility options to China,” with the country aiming to promote greener vehicles in a drive to curb pollution.

The all-new production models, Lannia and Murano Hybrid, were showcased in Shanghai next to decidedly sporty offerings the GT-R Nismo and 370Z Nismo. “These innovative vehicles represent the start of an exciting new chapter in the story of Nissan’s presence in, and commitment to, China,” commented Carlos Ghosn, Nissan’s chief executive officer. About the Murano Hybrid not much light has been shed, save for the fact it uses a supercharged 2.5-liter petrol engine mated to an electric motor that gets the necessary electricity from a compact lithium-ion battery. Nissan was also coy on revealing performance specifications, though the company said it comes with “excellent acceleration” and will achieve the mileage attributed to a regular 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine.

The Murano Hybrid will reach Chinese dealerships this summer but global availability has not been discussed. The powertrain specifications and outline does sound very close to what the already introduced 2014 Nissan Pathfinder Hybrid has to offer, with the crossover having an overall output of 250 bhp (186 kW) and 243 lb-ft (329 Nm) of torque. The model’s rated fuel economy stands at 26 mpg, around a quarter better than the standard 3.5 V6 model achieves so it’s safe to assume the same level of improvement for the Murano variant.
