KARACHI: National Logistic Corporation (NLC) has formally expressed its intent to acquire a 30% shareholding in Pakistan National Shipping Corporation (PNSC), along with the transfer of management control, signaling a major development in Pakistan’s maritime and logistics sector.

According to a statement submitted to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) on Tuesday, PNSC confirmed that it had received official correspondence from the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and a letter from NLC. The letters referenced a directive from the Prime Minister’s Office, in which the Prime Minister concurred in principle with the proposed acquisition and transfer of management rights, subject to compliance with applicable laws and corporate by-laws.

Following the Prime Minister’s guidance, NLC formally conveyed its intention to proceed with the acquisition, including consolidation of rights and management control over PNSC. The move is expected to enhance operational efficiency, strategic oversight, and growth potential within Pakistan’s national shipping operations.

Established under the Pakistan National Shipping Corporation Ordinance, 1979, PNSC operates as the country’s national flag carrier, engaging in shipping, vessel chartering, cargo transport, and related commercial services. The corporation also provides technical, administrative, and financial services to subsidiaries and third parties, and generates additional revenue through leasing of its properties.

The proposed acquisition by NLC represents a significant consolidation in the maritime sector, potentially strengthening governance, expanding operational capabilities, and supporting the government’s broader agenda of improving Pakistan’s logistics and shipping infrastructure.
