ISLAMABAD: Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad (MCI) has fully digitised its municipal licence services, eliminating manual processing and allowing applicants to secure permits and make payments online without visiting its offices.
The initiative, developed in collaboration with the National Information Technology Board (NITB), covers outdoor dining permits, signage and display board permissions, and other municipal permits.
It forms part of the federal government’s Digital Pakistan vision and is aimed at making municipal services faster, more accessible and less dependent on in-person interaction.
An official of the Directorate of Municipal Administration (DMA) said the move marks a significant shift for Islamabad’s business community, which previously had to navigate manual processes to obtain municipal permissions and licences.
Under the new system, applicants can submit requests and complete payments online, moving municipal transactions away from cash-based procedures.
Chief Officer MCI and Director DMA Dr Anam Fatima, who led the digitisation drive, said birth and death certificate registration had already been shifted online, and licence services have now been added to the digital platform.
She said citizens and businesses no longer need to visit the DMA in person to obtain a licence, calling it the biggest convenience for applicants.
Separately, Dr Anam Fatima, a BS-18 officer of the Pakistan Administrative Service (PAS), was transferred from the Capital Development Authority (CDA)/MCI on Tuesday.
She had been serving on deputation, and her services have now been placed at the disposal of the Ministry of Interior for further posting within the Islamabad Capital Territory administration. According to sources, she is expected to be posted as Additional Deputy Commissioner (General).
