No new tax in the caretaker setup, FBR tells IMF

ISLAMABAD: The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has showed its satisfaction over the performance of Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).

According to the sources of finance ministry, an online meeting was held between the IMF and FBR officials on Saturday. Pakistan told the IMF that no new tax could be imposed during the caretaker setup in the country.

The sources said that the IMF was told that the FBR would achieve the tax target without imposing any new tax. The IMF was seen satisfied with the performance of FBR so far in the meeting.

According to the sources, IMF would be briefed regarding the economic performance during the first week of October.

The tax-collection data from July to September would be presented before the IMF next week.

FBR collected more taxes than the set target during the first three months of ongoing fiscal year. The sources added that FBR collected 2.1 trillion tax during the first three months of ongoing fiscal year against the target of 1.98 trillion rupees.

The IMF was also briefed regarding the FBR’s action against the tax evaders, the sources said.
