No revenue collected in Karachi during three days, mainly due to bank holidays

Holidays, bank closures hamper collection; heat wave adds to the woes

KARACHI: Revenue collection by the Regional Tax Office and a number of customs departments was hit badly during the last three days because of a couple of reasons, due to which there was no collection in the commercial hub of the country.

The heat wave hampered the overall tax collection. Moreover, the banks remained closed  on the occasion of Ramazan 1, while the next day was Saturday, on which most of the commercial banks remained closed, while the third day was Sunday, a public holiday.

On the other hand, the heat wave also made a negative impact on the overall collections, as the importers kept themselves in their homes, while the attendance of the staff also remained thin.

However, on Monday, the revenue collection almost normalised despite the fact that the heat wave continued in Karachi.

It would be interesting to note that only eight days are left  for the end of the current fiscal year 2014-2015. Sunday being a holiday, only seven days are left for the revenue collection departments to achieve their respective targets, which seems to be an uphill task.
