ISLAMABAD: Parliamentary Secretary for National Food Security Rajab Ali Baloch has said that the government did not provide support price for any crop except wheat.
He said this while responding to various supplementary questions during Question Hour. He said the government also announced Rs 5000 compensation amount per acre on rice production. Rice production witnessed sharp increase every year, he added. To another question, Rajab Ali said National Agricultural Research System (NARS) was making continuous efforts to develop new seed varieties/hybrids of different crops.
Efforts were continuously being made by Research Institutions in the country to develop new varieties/hybrids, he added. He said Pakistan Agriculture Research Council (PARC) was also developing new varieties/hybrids of crops such as tomato, garlic and chillies. The Secretary said the country’s has enough stock of wheat which was sufficient for next year.
