MEXICO: NASA says that taking humans to Mars is still its top priority and that no private agency will be able to do so without its help. On Thursday a US House Committee meeting was held that focused on the Science, Space and Technology. In the meeting the president NASA officials, Charles Bolden, was invited to express his vision for the space agency for future. He said that by 2030 a manned mission to Mars could be launched.
According to Mr. Bolden, reaching Mars and colonizing it is possible because “Mars is the planet that is most like Earth.” He added “No commercial company without the support of NASA and government is going to get to Mars.”
Mr. Bolden said that there must be a test facility available for the private companies in order to do this. This is the logic behind Asteroid Redirect Mission (ARM) that is scheduled to be launched in 2020. The mission aims at putting chunk of asteroid into the orbit around the moon. It will ultimately be used by NASA to test critical technology such as the Solar Electrical Propulsion and authomous robotic technology.
