NEW DELHI: The classic Snake game was injected on a Nokia device back in 1997, and after 18 years the official version is back with a vengeance.

Taneli Armanto and developer Rumilus Design are together bringing the latest version of the simple trail game onto modern mobile operating systems- iOS, Android, and Windows Phone.

Nokia’s Snake was the king of the mobile gaming world and was pre-installed on every mobile phone the company sold. Its modern-day version, dubbed Snake Rewind, will aim to create nostalgia on May 14, when the game will be released across platforms, The Guardian reports.

Although the game is not invented by Nokia, Armanto was the person who preloaded it on Nokia’s 6110 handset years ago. According to Armanto, the idea behind creating Snake for the Nokia 6110 in 1997 was to leverage the infrared link in the device, a first at that time, to allow people to play against each other.

There are a number of unofficial versions of the game available on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store which could possibly provide competition for the official remake.

The latest version will evidently come with new features including the ability to rewind the Snake to continue the game even after crashing as well as new power-ups and levels.

The game is expected to be a freemium app which will include in-app purchases.
