LAHORE: Federal Bureau of Revenue (FBR) has frozen bank accounts of cricketer Muhammad Hafeez over non-payment of Rs4.2 million income tax.

According to FBR, the board has also written to Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and Sui Northern regarding Hafeez.

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s most successful captain Misbah-ul-Haq condemned Indian media for spreading false rumours about his non-payment of taxes and duty. The Press Trust of India (PTI) reported that Pakistan’s Test captain Misbah-ul-Haq’s SUV was seized by the FBR due to the non-payment of taxes and duty. But, the Test skipper rubbished all the rumours and said that he is displeased with the Indian media for publishing such news without any proper evidence.

Misbah was also confronted by FBR last year in October when his bank account was frozen due to non-payment of taxes amounting to 3.9 million rupees. Pakistan’s most successful captain then met with Federal Minister for Finance Ishaq Dar in Islamabad to resolve the problem.

Sources said that the FBR seized Misbah’s land cruiser after serving a prompt notice that he had to clear all duties and taxes with penalty to reclaim it back.
