‘North Region exceeds allocated target with 9% above collection in first quarter’

ISLAMABAD: Sarwat Tahira Habib, Chief Collector, Customs North Region, consisting of Customs Collectorates of Islamabad, Peshawar, Sialkot and Gilgit-Baltistan communicated her appreciation to the officers and staff of the Customs North Region on achieving the assigned monthly revenue targets of Customs Duty (CD) and Total Duty Taxes for the Financial Year (FY) 2017-18. The Chief Collector North discloses that she has called a conference of the Collectors of North Region on 17th of October FY17-18 to evolve a strategy for 2nd-Quarter of FY17-18.

According to details given by Chief Collector Sarwat Tahira Habib while giving an exclusive interview to Customs Today that she has sent ‘appreciation letters’ to all the Customs Collectorates working under the jurisdiction of Customs North Region.

She remarked that it is heartening to note that the North Region excelled the target with 9% above collection in the first quarter. The North Region earned Rs2545.85million of CD against the revenue collection of Rs1776.37million, she added.
Answering a query regarding the collection of total duties and taxes during the 1st trimester of FY17-18, Sarwat Tahira Habib told Customs Today that the North Region exceeded the allocated target of all taxes with an achievement of 20% against the earmarked revenue target.

During the 1st-Quarter FY17-18, the North Region earned Rs9178.77million under the head of all taxes whereas it was assigned revenue target of Rs7625.63million. The North generated extra revenue of Rs1553.14million against the allocated revenue target.
The chief collector told CT that the North Region posted 33% revenue collection growth as Sales Tax (ST) while the North showed 109% growth of Federal Excise Duty (FED) and the North Region showed 11% growth as With Holding Tax (WHT) against the earmarked revenue target for the 1st-Quarter FY 17-18.
She said the North Region is maintaining its upward trend for the next quarter. The chief collector expressed her hope that the North Region will do more efforts and planning for achieving the targets. She added that she has urged the respective collectors to ensure smooth collection of even bigger targets for the second quarter of Financial Year 2017-18.
The chief collector maintained that the main objective of the conference called on October 17 is to understand the shortcomings faced by the collectorates and pinpoint the solutions to overcome them. She emphasized that the conference will play an effective role in gearing up efforts to meet the assigned revenue collection targets for next quarter.
