ISLAMABAD: The Customs North Region, comprising of Islamabad, Peshawar, Sialkot and Gilgit-Baltistan, earned surplus revenue of Rs1553.14million as all duties and taxes against the assigned revenue collection target for the first quarter (July to September) Financial Year (FY) 2017-18. The Federal Board of Revenue allocated Rs7625.63million collection to the North under all the heads while it generated Rs9178.77million during 1st Q FY17-18.
According to details explained by sources of the Customs North Region that, during 1st-Q, the North Region showed 20.37% increase against set revenue collection target. The sources added that, during said period, the North received Rs22.36million extra revenue against the 1st-Q in the previous period of FY2016-17. The North got Rs7543.11million during 1st-Q FY16-17 whereas it did Rs9178.77million during the 1st-Q of FY17-18.
The sources told CT that, during 1st-Q FY17-18, the customs stations, working under the umbrella of North Region i.e. Model Customs Collectorate (MCC) Islamabad, showed 14.45% increase against the earmarked revenue collection target for said period under all the heads while the MCC Peshawar showed 14.97% of hike against the assigned revenue collection target under all the heads for the 1st-Q FY17-18.
The MCC Samberial showed-50.93% increase by paying rebate refunds to exporters against the allocated target and the MCC GB declined by 7.45% against the set revenue collection target under all the heads during the 1st-Q FY17-18.
The chief collector has told all the customs stations of the North Region to gear up their efforts to enhance the revenue and make more effective the performance of anti-smuggling drive against the tax evaders and smugglers.
