OLSO: Norway’s Government has affirmed its commitment to “lower and simpler taxes” as part of a new governmental platform agreed recently by a three-party coalition. According to a summary of the agreement published by the Conservative Party, or “Hoyre,” the Government will seek to improve the tax system “by reducing tax rates and reviewing tax deductions that have little relation to income and work with a view to simplification.” In addition, the coalition has agreed to reduce property tax by requiring municipalities to hold down the amount of tax they can charge on residential and holiday properties.
The right-wing coalition was finalized earlier this month, four months after elections were held. It includes Prime Minister Erna Solberg’s Hoyre Party, the Progress Party (Fremskrittspartiet), and the Liberal Party (Venstre).
