OSLO: Norwegian seafood exports in July generated income for NOK 6.6 billion (USD 781.8 million), a figure representing a 15 per cent growth year on year. So far this year, the total value for sales abroad have reached NOK 4.92 billion (USD 5.83 billion), an increase of 24 per cent compared to the same period last year, according to the Norwegian Seafood Council. In the case of salmon, in July exports were worth NOK 4.8 billion, representing an increase of 25 per cent compared with the seventh month in 2015 and so far this year, they have totalled NOK 33 billion, an increase of 27 per cent. The average price for whole fresh Norwegian salmon in July was NOK 66.40 per kilo compared with NOK 43.96 per kilo a year earlier. Poland and France were the biggest buyers of this product.
Norway also exported trout, which was worth NOK 342 million in July, representing an increase of 69 per cent from the same month last year. So far this year, these exports have also grown, to NOK 2.3 billion, which is an increase of 97 per cent year-on-year. Japan and Belarus were the largest buyers of this product.
In July, exports of fresh cod, including fillets, reached NOK 72 million, which represents an increase of 9 per cent compared with the same month last year. Year-to-date fresh cod exports, including fillets, have totalled NOK 1.7 billion, representing an increase of 15 per cent.
Frozen cod exports, including fillets, amounted to NOK 208 million in July, representing an increase of 16 per cent from the seventh month last year. So far this year, frozen cod exports, including fillets, have been worth NOK 1.5 billion, an increase of 32 per cent from the same period last year.
Clipfish exports in July totalled NOK 221 million, 11 per cent less than in the same month last year. So far this year, these exports have declined by 12 per cent, to NOK 1.9 billion. Exports of salted fish in July amounted to NOK 41 million, which is an increase of 13 per cent. So far this year, these exports have reached a total value of NOK 937 million, which is an increase of 6 per cent with the same period last year.
Herring exports in July reached NOK 204 million, which is an increase of 7 per cent compared with the seventh month in 2015. Year-to-date, herring exports have totalled NOK 1.7 billion, representing a growth of 48 per cent compared with the same period in 2015. Poland and Germany were the biggest markets for herring.
