KARACHI: Withdrawal of ISAF troops from Afghanistan is due in 2014 but no precautionary measures have been taken by the government yet to provide security cover for military equipment of US and NATO returning to their primary destinations via Pakistan, sources said.
They said that this is providing lucrative opportunities to certain elements to snatch and steal military equipment in transit.
Recently an incident of stealing three reverse military cargos in Karachi has been confirmed. The chances of more such incidents in near future are expected as no move has been taken to secure transit route for military cargo, sources added.
They said that if no attention was paid to secure transit route for ISAF cargo, there would be a chance for anti-state elements to further themselves by stealing ISAF military cargo and harm Pakistan by flaring up terrorist activities in and beyond country’s borders.
