Notice to M/s Five Star Industries for ‘evading duty and taxes’

LAHORE: Collectorate of Customs Adjudication has issued show cause notice to M/s Five Star Industries for allegedly evading duty and taxes on three consignments of Poly Gel Batteries of MPG Series 200AH/lSO along with Inverters of 600 W-1000 watts.

it has been reported by the Assistant Director Directorate of Intelligence Investigation—FER Lahore hereinafter credible information was received that M/s Five Star Industries a commercial importer of Gujranwala had imported M/s Five consignments of Poly Gel Batteries of MPG Series 200AH/lSO AH along with Inverters of 600 W-1000 Watts Out of five consignments two consignments of Batteries and Inverters were taxed on statutory rate of duty and taxes and in remaining three consignments the importer succeeded to get the illegal customs clearance by seeking exemptions of duty and taxes.

Reportedly the imported batteries are for multiple uses i.e in telecommunications Uninterruptible Power Supply UPS Switch gear/utility etc. therefore benefits of duty and taxes are not extendable on imported batteries in question.

It was said reported b the detecting above M/s Five Star Industries had caused total evasion of duty and taxes to the tune of Rs.64,75 368 Customs Duty Rs 2,24,543 Sales Tax Rs.22,78,966 additional sales tax Rs.4,02,171 additional customs duty Rs.1,11,812 and income tax Rs.14,57,876 on the said consignment Thus the said evaded amount of duty and taxes are recoverable from the said from the importer.

The collectorate has fixed hearing in this case 18/12/2016 at the undersigned situated at Custom House Nabha Road Lahore.
