A joint investigation between NZ customs and the police quickly lead to the teen’s arrest. He will appear in at the Wellington District Court tomorrow.

The head of the Wellington Organised Crime Unit, Detective Senior Sergeant Tim Leitch, took the opportunity to give his team a hearty pat on the back, according to his quotes in TVNZ.

“Though the methamphetamine was concealed to try and avoid law enforcement, NZ Customs have again shown that through vigilance and having quality systems in place significant seizures can be made. This is helping to keep New Zealanders safe.”

He added that they are now all said to be on extra high alert and focusing their resources on a “prevention first strategy”.

In addition, Detective Leitch affirms that the team “will be working closely with our international partners and sharing intelligence in an attempt to identify all those involved in this offending, both here and in Hong Kong”.
