BHUBANESWAR: The state government aims to increase its export potential to Rs 38,714 crore by 2022-23 with an annual average growth of 10%. Official sources said Odisha exported different products worth Rs 17,701.68 crore in 2014-15. Though the final export figure of the last fiscal is yet to be ascertained, it is expected to touch Rs 19,562.08 crore.
The year-wise export potential has been estimated at Rs 21,559.95 crore in 2016-17, Rs 23,763.88 crore in 2017-18, Rs 26,195.42 crore in 2018-19, Rs 28,878.38 crore in 2019-20, Rs 31,839.16 crore in 2020-21, Rs 35,106.97 crore in 2021-22 and Rs 38,714,19 crore in 2022-23, said the sources added.
Sectors like metallurgical, mineral, software and engineering goods would boost states export potential. The government, however, is not expect much from handloom, handicraft, pharmaceuticals and agriculture sectors.
Odisha exported metallurgical products worth Rs 6126.26 crore in 2014-15 and the amount is expected to grow up to Rs 13,194.48 crore by 2022-23. Similarly, software export, estimated at Rs1742.54 crore in 2014-15, is expected to touch Rs 1916.79 crore in 2015-16 and Rs 3735.23 crore in 2022-23.
The encouraging figure in software export is courtesy growth of information and technology (IT) in the state. The upcoming Info Valley-II project hopes to attract global investment in IT. It will be ready by 2018. IT-major Infosys is the tenant anchor of the proposed IT special economic zone.
The mining sector, which is expected to get a boost following the new Mines and Minerals Development and Regulation Act, is expected to pick up steam in the next one to two years. While total export of minerals from Odisha was pegged at Rs 8442.7 crore, the amount is expected to touch Rs 9286.97 crore in 2015-16 and Rs 18097 crore by 2022-23, the statement added.
