ISLAMABAD: The Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL)-sponsored girls’ hostel with an accommodation capacity of 300 students has been inaugurated in Quaid-e-Azam University.
OGDCL Managing Director Zahid Mir and QAU Vice Chancellor Dr Javed Ashraf opened the hostel, constructed under the OGDCL’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Javed Ashraf lauded the noble step of OGDCL and urged the corporate sector of the country to come forward and support the premier institutions. The vice chancellor said QAU is a federally chartered university devoted to teach and research. At QAU, students are admitted from all over Pakistan according to regional quota, but purely on merit. Therefore, he said, the requirement for hostel accommodation is much more than any other university. He praised the generous donation of OGDCL and hoped that shortage of hostel accommodation will be tackled successfully with the completion of the new hostel.
While addressing the ceremony, Zahid Mir said, since its inception, the OGDCL has always given top priority to the development of communities residing in and around the company’s area of operations. “We support education initiatives directed at our employees as well as the people and communities around us,” he added. Deans of the faculties, staff and senior members attended the ceremony.
