Custom Court awards 15 days imprisonment to suspect involved in diesel smuggling

KARACHI: Custom Taxation and Anti-Smuggling Court Judge Syed Faiz Rasool Rashdi has awarded 15 days imprisonment and Rs 100,000 fine to the suspect, Abdul Nafay, on pleading guilty. The suspect was booked for attempting to smuggle 45,000 litters Iranian origin high speed diesel.

During the hearing, above named accused person filed application for pleading guilty, therefore, the charges were framed against him. The accused already remained under judicial custody from Jan 1, 2017 to Feb 7, 2017. In default of payment of fine, he will suffer simple imprisonment for further two months.

Earlier, investigation officer Pervaiz Ahmed Zardari, intelligence officer, directorate general intelligence and investigation-FBR (customs anti-smuggling) had produced the above named accused person before the court and submitted that on a credible information, staff of the anti-smuggling organization department dated 22/01/2017 during checking/surveillance limits of Moucko Check Post Hub River Karachi, intercepted a suspect oil tanker bearing registration number TKS-540 having 45,000 litters Iranian HSD Oil valuing in open market Rs3,465, 000.

Case was registered in violation of section 2 (s) 16, 157 (2) of the customs act, 1969 punishable under clauses (8) (9) & (89) of sub section (1) read with sub section (2) of section 156 ibid.
