ISLAMABAD: United States (US) Ambassador, Richard G. Olson met Finance Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar here on Wednesday and discussed Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) related matters of US Caterpillar Company.
They also exchanged views on issues relating to Fatima Fertilizer’s proposed investment venture in US and the matter regarding acquiring of Cheveron Pakistan Ltd. shares by Total-Parco.
Regarding FBR issues related to Caterpillar, the Minister said that he had already issued instructions to the FBR to look into this issue and the matter would be resolved in due course, said statement issued by Finance Ministry.
Dar said that Economic Coordination Committee of the Cabinet (ECC) was the forum to decide about Fatima Fertilizer’s proposed investment in the US.
The US Ambassador also invited Finance Minister’s attention to the issue of extension in the date for tariff by NEPRA for two oil exploration companies financed by OPIC as they needed more time to achieve financial close.
The Minister said the matter would be accorded due consideration.
The US Envoy also exchanged views with the Finance Minister on the proposed law for registration of INGOs and NGOs saying that views of relevant stakeholders, donor agencies etc. should also be sought before finalization of the draft law.
This he said would remove the feelings of unease among foreign donors, he added.
The Minister said that Economic Affairs Division was working on the draft law for registration and was in contact with donor agencies, INGOs, others seeking their views and that all efforts would be made to carry out a balanced legislation.
The US Envoy also exchanged views with the Finance Minister regarding his forthcoming visit to the United States hoping it would further strengthen Pak-US economic cooperation.
