MUSCAT: Customs officials at the Wadi Al Jizi border post foiled an attempt to smuggle illegal cigarettes into the Sultanate.
Officers found 132 cartons of cigarettes hidden in different parts of the vehicle. The driver was detained and police are proceeding with investigations.
Two Omani citizens were arrested by the Directorate General of Inquiries and Investigations in North Al Batinah Royal Oman Police for auto theft of a vehicle in Liwa.
An official source said, “The suspects stole a car belonging to a company after it stopped in front of a representative’s house.”
After investigations, they found the suspects and arrested them.
“The suspects confessed that they broke the window in order to get into the vehicle and sold the car in a neighbouring country,” explained the official.
