MUSCAT: Oman customs seized more than 21,000 liquor bottles from a truck at Al Wajajah border post.
The accused, an Arab, was coming from a neighboring country. The bottles were packed tightly after the accused had filled the container with vegetables and fruits.
Eight people, including six women, were arrested by the Royal Oman Police (ROP) in Ruwi area of Muttrah wilayat on the charges of prostitution.
It came after a co-ordinated raid between the ROP and the Ministry of Manpower. All the accused are Asians. An official source at the ROP, said that the first two accused who were males, would hunt down absconding housemaids and convince them to work in the flat for a monthly wage. Investigations are under way.
In another case, the Investigation and Criminal Investigation Department of ROP arrested two Asian women on prostitution charges in Bausher wilayat. An ROP official said that the accused were arrested red-handed following a raid on the flat they stayed in. The two accused have been referred to the Public Prosecution for further investigation and trial.
