MUSCAT: The Royal Oman Police (ROP) arrested a smuggler from an African country attempting to smuggle arms from Sohar Industrial Port, about 231km north of Muscat, according to a press release issued on Monday afternoon.
A number of guns, electrical detonators, silencers and narcotics were concealed in a container that docked at the port.
The accused, who is a resident in Oman, has been moved to the public prosecution for further investigation.
ROP officials refused to give further details about the incident or which country the container came from.
In 2013, nine Omanis were held in connection with the seizure of arms from the Sohar Industrial Port.
As many as 30,393 pistols were found hidden inside eight containers after the ship docked at the port in Sohar were seized.
All the accused were later released due to inadequate evidence, according to an official at the ROP.
