Oman Police intercept 1570 smuggled bundles of khat from boat

MUSCAT: The ROP had been tipped that there was a smuggling consignment incoming from the sea in Wilayat Mirbat. The boat was intercepted and 1570 bundles of Khat were confiscated from the boat.

Five people were arrested by the Directorate of Narcotics Control under the Dhofar Royal Oman Police (ROP) for smuggling, possession, use and intent, and trafficking of narcotic substances.

An ROP official said, “The police intelligence was tipped about a boat entering Oman’s regional waters with narcotics on board, which were to be handed over to people on a beach in Mughsayl, Salalah. The suspects were arrested during the course of their transaction and 1,755 bundles of khat were seized from them.”

Meanwhile, the Directorate of Narcotics Control also foiled another attempt to smuggle khat into Dhofar.

An official said, “We had been tipped that there was a smuggling consignment incoming from the sea in Wilayat Mirbat. The boat was intercepted and 1570 bundles of Khat were confiscated from the boat.”

The suspects have been dealt according to legal procedures.
