MUSCAT: An earthquake measuring 4.7 on Richter scale occurred in Arabian Sea on Tuesday night at around 8pm, according to United States Geological Survey (USGS).
“The epicenter of the earth quake is in the Owen Region, some 369km South East of Salalah coast. The depth of the earthquake was 10km,” the USGS report said.

Two earthquakes were recorded in Muscat during the last one week. While an earthquake measuring 2.54 on the Richter scale was reported in Muscat at 2:25 pm on Monday, a temblor measuring 3 on the Richter scale occurred at the same location, some 160 kilometres off Muscat on Saturday.
Even though, Monday’s quake was not felt in Muscat, Saturday’s tremor shook the buildings in and around the capital city.
On Tuesday, experts said there was nothing to worry about experts also noted that earthquakes cannot be predicted, even by scientists.
