Customs Intelligence seizes smuggled peanuts from Taxila

PESHAWAR: The Customs Intelligence and Investigation Wing seized the smuggled peanuts of over one thousand kilograms from Taxila on Thursday.

A team of the Customs Intelligence along with the local police raided a warehouse located on Thatta Khalil Road and recovered the said huge quantity of smuggled peanut worth millions of rupees. The raid was carried out on the direction of the high-ups who received a tip-off about the intended smuggling item.

Prior to the execution of the raid, a team of ground officers of the Customs Intelligence and Investigations Wing was constituted. The team was informed secretly by the senior officers that a big quantity of peanut, imported illegally from India, was to smuggle into Afghanistan. Initially, the peanut was smuggled into Taxila illegally via Torkham Border. The raiding team reached the designated warehouse and impounded the peanut.

The item was confiscated under Section 18, 32 of the Customs Act-1969 and two people were also arrested against whom an FIR has also been lodged.
