Ongoing power projects to eliminate loadshedding: Abid

ISLAMABAD: State Minister for Water and Power Abid Sher Ali has said that the government has launched several power projects to enhance power generation, which would help eliminate load-shedding.

Talking to Pakistan Television (PTV), the minister said electricity generation would be increased to 18,000 megawatt by the end of this year to meet the energy demands. He said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, top priority was being given to the power sector to end darkness from the country.

Abid said Diamer-Bhasha and Dasu Dam projects were in the pipeline, adding, “70 percent land for the Diamer-Bhasha Dam has been acquired.” He said new transmission lines were also being laid down besides the existing system was being upgraded to reduce line losses.

“Work on 4th and 5th extension of Tarbela is also underway to increase power generation from the project,” he added.
