LONDON: Deep in Oregon’s Mount Hood National Forest, there is a mysterious lake that is famous for disappearing.
Every winter, the appropriately named Lost Lake fills up with water from melting snow, and every spring it vanishes down two cavernous holes, leaving behind a grassy meadow. No one is quite sure where all the water goes.
A video uploaded to YouTube by The Bulletin journalist Ryan Brennecke shows the lake water rushing down what scientists have identified as a lava tube — a two-metre-wide channel that acts like a giant drain.
