AMMAN: Greater Amman Municipality signed a $18million soft loan agreement with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) to help manage solid waste.
The agreement entails implementing a comprehensive landfill-gas (LFG) recovery system, the first of its kind in Jordan which will be used to generate electricity for delivery to the national grid, replacing electricity produced by grid-connected power plants that for the time being used heavy fuel oil. Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Imad Fakhoury and EBRD President Sir Suma Chakrabarti discussed the role to be played by the EBRD during the next World Economic Forum to be held in the Dead Sea.
