LONDON: At least 2,000 migrating snow geese fell dead from the Idaho sky according to wildlife officials of Idaho. The snow geese were migrating to their nesting grounds on the northern coast of Alaska.
According to wildlife officials, avian cholera could be the culprit in the death of thousands of snow geese.
Idaho Department of Fish and Game spokesman Gregg Losinski said that they have been retrieving and incarcerating hundreds of dead snow geese that they’ve found near bodies of eater and wildlife management areas in the eastern part of Idaho.
He explained that only avian cholera can cause such a devastating death to the birds.
“Basically, they just fell out of the sky,” said Losinski.
The state lab already run a test to confirm the cause of death of the birds. Wildlife experts added that avian cholera is deadly and contagious and it can survive in soil and water of up to four months.
Losinski added that it cannot harm humans but it is a risk to other animals especially in the area where the dead snow geese fell.
