CANBERRA: Land Rover has hauled the wraps from its fresh face lifted Evoque, revealed today ahead of a Geneva Motor Show entrance next month.

The refreshed Range gets lightly updated styling, Jaguar Land Rover’s new ‘Ingenium’ engines, revised suspension and a number of technology tweaks in the cabin.

Australian buyers must wait until early next year to step into the face lifted Evoque, although European sales are also not scheduled to begin until late in 2015.

Styling and Features

Leading the styling changes are new lamps at both ends, boasting adaptive all-LED lighting and redesigned daytime lights up front, along with revised LED lights at the rear.

There’s also a new front bumper with larger intakes, a pair of new grille designs (depending on the model selected) and a new tailgate wing with integrated LED brake light.

Inside there’s redesigned seats and door panels, along with improved soft-touch materials.

“Our challenge has been to enhance Evoque without diluting its iconic design,” Land Rover design boss Gerry McGovern said.

“The design refreshments give it an even greater presence on the road yet retain the emotional appeal that has made it so popular with more than 400,000 consumers around the world.”

Land Rover’s new eight-inch touchscreen display is also featured, with the InTouch control system on board. There’s also a new TFT display in the instrument cluster.

Range Rover’s All-Terrain Progress Control will be featured with certain models, along with lane-keeping assist, autonomous emergency braking and driver fatigue detection.

Trim grades have also been revised to mirror the larger Range Rover models, meaning that buyers will now choose from SE, HSE Dynamic and Autobiography models.

Mechanical Package

Jaguar Land Rover’s new ‘Ingenium’ diesel engines will feature in the refreshed Evoque range in two power levels, along with the existing Si4 petrol engine.

In the manual-equipped front-wheel-drive TD4 model, the turbodiesel engine will offer 110kW of power and a low fuel-consumption rating of 4.4 l/100km.

Moving up to the next level boosts power to 132kW, with fuel use rising to 4.8 l/100km.

Land Rover says the more powerful engine is around 18 percent more efficient than its predecessor.

The new Ingenium engines, which weigh between 20 and 30kg less than the previous generation’s diesels, benefit from variable valve timing, new low-friction technologies and new low-pressure exhaust gas recirculation.

In a first for the entire Land Rover family, new ‘E-Capability’ models will also be offered in the Evoque range, developed with a focus on emissions that Land Rover believes will rate as low as 109g/km.

Those models, available in both three- and five-door form, will wear blue Evoque badges to set them apart from the Range.

Land Rover’s familiar 177kW Si4 petrol engine will again feature, matched to ‘Active Driveline’ on-demand all-wheel-drive and a nine-speed auto.

The Si4 promises a 0-100km/h time of 7.6 seconds and fuel consumption figures of 7.6 l/100km.

The Evoque also picks up a revised suspension package for 2015, largely to address the lighter weight of the new Ingenium engines. Land Rover specifies a new front suspension sub frame and updated rear bushings.
