ISLAMABAD: The federal government has allocated Rs 1,520.521 million (over Rs 1.5 billion) for the development of agriculture sector under its Annual Development Programme 2016-17.
According to the Annual Development programme, the government has allocated Rs 1,245 million for the completion of 19 on-going projects and 275 million for six new schemes in the agriculture sector.
An amount of Rs 200 million has been allocated for the National Pesticides Residues Monitoring System in Pakistan a project of Pakistan Agricultural Research Council (PARC), besides allocating Rs 50 million for Indegnization of Hybrid Seed Production for Enhanced Crop Production (Islamabad).
In the ADP 2016-17, the government has also allocated Rs 100 million for strengthening/up-gradation of Agricultural and Zone Research Institute, Umerkot, Sindh. Similarly, Rs 273 million have also been allocated for the upgradation of Arid Zone Research Institute (AZRI) to the level of AZRC and establishment of a new demonstration institute.
