BRUSSELS: Many asylum seekers who arrive in Belgium come from conflict-torn countries. Some have been subjected to bombardments, violent acts and other traumatizing experiences. The Secretary of State for Asylum and Migration, Theo Francken, decided to provide 2.3 million euros from the AMIF to provide them with better psychological support.
Resources will be given to the French- and Dutch-speaking Red Cross and the Saint-Martin psychiatric neuro-centre to set up mobile psychological assistance teams.
The Catholic University of Leuven, KUL, will also receive support, via the ResCareRefugees Project, to enable it to provide a residential therapeutic treatment service for children from conflict zones.
