P85D Model S, Tesla vs Lynx Boondocker snowmobile: Tesla named new ice-mobile, will be on roads for  $105,000 soon

MADRID: Tesla Motors Inc launched the dual-motor P85D that goes on sale for $105,000 late in 2014 as the company sought to increase its average transaction prices to offset a decline and a further move from profitability.

2014 was not the best of years for the giant electric company as the stock lost a substantial amount of value while failing to meet its fourth-quarter delivery goal by about 300 units.

Model S P85D is now available for delivery starting late March according to Tesla Motors Inc online ordering tool with the $71,000 single electric motor Model S to be made available in May. The company is expected to unveil its sports utility vehicle Model X in the third quarter.

Tesla P85D Model S racing across the iced-over Tisleia Lake in Norway with nothing to keep those tires from slip sliding away on the thin layer of snow covering that terrain. Its challenger was a Scandinavian made Lynx Boondocker snowmobile.

The blow-by-blow of the race can be found in VI Menn, a Norwegian men’s magazine, which reports that the Lynx has acceleration capabilities that aren’t far off those of the Tesla P85D.

In the end, Tesla wins the race, and sportsmobile owner Sondre Bjøberg concedes that while his glorified scooter rules on the snow, it’s no match for that Model S on ice.

Of course, Tesla doesn’t need much publicity to keep the love going in Norway. The country offers plenty of incentives to buy electric cars, such as less tax, free charging, and bus-lane and toll-free driving, making it one of the biggest markets for the company.

Tesla stock is down about 14% so far in a year that has included a bigger-than-expected loss for the fourth quarter and disappointing sales, especially in places such as China. And then there’s the fact that plenty of companies are nipping at Tesla’s electric-car heels.
