LAHORE: In a bid to become an A-Class service provider to its members, Pakistan Association of Automotive Parts and Accessories Manufacturers (PAAPAM) has expanded its collaboration with international agencies to steer the association members into new directions of exports, improving skill level of its members, creating effective export marketing plans, leading to achieve export-led growth of economy of Pakistan.
PAAPAM and bfz gGmbH, a German development organization, conducted workshop on the topic of “Improving Service Delivery of Association” for skill development of auto parts manufacturers.
Under the umbrella of project Espire, PAAPAM together with Bfz gGmbH, will enhance the capabilities of auto parts manufacturers through a series of workshops and trainings.
On this occasion, PAAPAM SVC Mumshad Ali said here Saturday that the seminar is yet another landmark, reflecting Association’s commitment and efforts to enhance the capacity of industry.
“Apart from seeking technical collaboration with the international companies for high-tech auto parts manufacturing in Pakistan by sending delegation abroad, attending international auto shows and organizing mega exhibitions locally, PAAPAM now is moving towards becoming an institute from its humble beginning as a group of auto part manufacturers.”
Mumshad Ali said that Pakistan auto engineering industry is estimated to have export potential of about 10 billion dollars annually, with management expertise, basic skills base and infrastructure already in place. “Our Association is now working to fill the missing links, giving attention to the engineering value chains and enhancing export marketing skills of our members.â€
Addressing the participants of the workshop, PAAPAM vice chairman Iftikhar Ahmed said that Bfz gGmbH is one of the largest private vocational training providers in Germany. Its International Division runs development co-operation projects on behalf of World Bank, European Union and German Government in several countries of Latin America, Africa and Asia. The project titled ‘Espire’ had been initiated with the aim of making the local industry competitive as it had been affected by ever-increasing cost of production in Pakistan.
Iftikhar said that Bfz has carried out sponsoring of workshops that have helped auto parts industries reduce their energy costs by implementing an energy measurement and management techniques. The training workshops also contain services that support industries to increase their productivity with less consumption of resources, reducing negative environmental impact and with better protection for workers.
He said that PAAPAM Skill Development Centre has already been conducting workshops in collaboration with CBI for the capacity building of our member companies. He said that Association’s participation in international exhibitions was part of strategy to introduce international markets to its members, providing them an opportunity to forge new alliances and business ventures, besides introducing the world a true commercial and manufacturing diversity of Pakistani companies.
