PAC directs Housing & Works ministry to pursue pending cases

ISLAMABAD: Sub-Committee-I of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) on Wednesday directed the Ministry of Housing and Works to vigorously pursue the pending cases in courts.

The Sub-Committee-I meeting was attended by Convener Shahida Akhtar Ali including members Abdul Rasheed Godil, Raja Muhammad Javed Ikhlas, and discussed the audit reports of the Ministry of Housing and Works for the year 1998-99.

It discussed 33 audit paras while recommended 89 paras for settlement after verification of record and 53 paras for pursuance at DAC level.

The committee while discussing the audit pars of the National Construction Limited (NCL) directed the authorities concerned to pursue the cases which are still pending in the court.

Convener, Shahida Akhtar Ali expressed annoyance over non-conducting of Departmental Accounts Committee (DAC) and directed the ministry to conduct DAC on regular basis and discuss all the matters before appearing in the meeting.

The Audit officials told the meeting that due to un-justified expenditure on work charge staff, government suffered the loss of millions of rupees while no responsibility was fixed in this regard beside its regularization.

The committee asked the Housing ministry to expedite the inquiries of the pending cases and submit its report to the committee.
